Kansas City Chiefs can target three wide receivers to raise their ceiling for the 2024 season
Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs may soon be in the market for another wide receiver. The uncertainty of the situation, whether they sign Zay Jones this week or bring in another player, adds an intriguing element to the team's future. With Rashee Rice's name in the news again, this time for another alleged situation, it's becoming increasingly uncertain if the Chiefs could be without him in 2024 for some time.

The league is still deliberating on what will happen with Rashee Rice, the player who is expected to easily be WR1 on the year for the Chiefs after a stellar rookie season. The Chiefs now have two players, Xavier Worthy and Hollywood Brown, who have smaller frames and may be more susceptible to injury. This underscores the urgency for the Chiefs to secure a reliable wide receiver.

The Chiefs have depth issues, and while we have talked about players that can help raise their floor, or make the worst version of themselves better, there are some depth guys the Chiefs could add to raise their ceiling as well. But these guys are more of a risk that the team could take.

Three WRs Chiefs should target to raise the ceiling

Michael Thomas

This one is pretty obvious and one that everyone has talked about. Thomas had one of the greatest seasons out of a wide receiver we have ever seen and has been a very good wide receiver for the first half of his career. But that's just the thing - the last half of his career has been everything but great.

Thomas has had some of the most unfortunate injury luck of all time. He has dealt with a multitude of injuries, and they have kept him sidelined a lot. Thomas has played just 20 games since 2020, which is staggering. He did show flashes of being back to the same player he used to be last season, but nothing too crazy. The Chiefs could try and give it a shot, and if it works, they have a guy who has elite route running and great contested catch ability.

Treylon Burks

This option would have to come by trade, and even though Burks was the receiver they drafted with the pick they got back in the A.J. Brown trade, the Tennessee Titans may be willing to give him up after signing Ridley and Boyd this offseason, among some other free agents. Burks, in my opinion, as someone who watched him closely at Arkansas, still has a ton of potential that hasn't been tapped into.

He was thrown into a very bad offense with a bad quarterback and dealt with some injuries. His size and athleticism are a phenomenal combination that could make him an unstoppable guy in the right offense. He can play multiple positions, which gives him the flexibility that the Chiefs need, too. The only thing is trading for Burks.

Jamal Agnew

I know that this one sounds crazy, but Agnew showed a ton of potential in Jacksonville with the Jaguars. However, he also showed a lot of drops and fumbles. His speed is what sets him apart, not to mention that he can get open very well. The risk would be worth it if the Chiefs could develop him into something.

However, Agnew is not as much of a risk because his path to making the tea will be much easier than that of a few other guys on the roster. He is an elite kick and punt returner. The one thing that makes this a potentially bad idea is that he is the same body type as guys like Mecole Hardman and Kadarius Toney. In that aspect, he doesn't bring anything different.
