AFC East rival Dolphins Ink Former Jet Braxton Berrios

Braxton Berrios is jetting off to South Florida.

After spending the last four seasons with the New York Jets, the former All-Pro kick returner has latched on with the Miami Dolphins. Berrios joins the Fins on one-year deal that was first reported by NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe and later confirmed by agent Drew Rosenhaus.

The Jets recently released the veteran receiver to free up approximately $5 million in salary cap space, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Berrios, who has played 65 games as a Jet since 2019, signed a two-year contract with Gang Green last offseason. He originally entered the league as a sixth-round draft pick by the New England Patriots in 2018 and the Green & White claimed him off waivers the following year.

Berrios, who has a 24.9 career kick return average, regressed as a receiver during the 2022 campaign. The former Miami Hurricane pulled in only 18 passes last fall and his 8.1 yards per reception were the lowest of his career.

Berrios had a 15-yard touchdown run in a Week 5 home win over Miami, but he made only one catch for a loss of one yard against the Dolphins in 2022. The veteran did not play in the regular season finale at Hard Rock Stadium.

The 5-foot-9 pass-catcher is the second former Jet to sign with the AFC East rival Dolphins this week.

Miami agreed to terms with free agent quarterback Mike White, who passed for 1,192 yards in four games last season.
