Wizards Talking Monte Morris Trade, Exploring Chris Paul Options
Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

As it stands, the Wizards currently have four point guards on the roster after trades with the Suns and Celtics/Grizzlies.

Those would be none other than Chris Paul, acquired from the Suns, Tyus Jones (Grizzlies) and holdovers Monte Morris and Delon Wright. Washington also owns the No. 8 pick in Thursday’s NBA Draft and could potentially take a guard there, too.

According to Hoops Wire sources, Jones is the one player they truly covet in the group, though they remain open to keeping Paul — if he is open to staying, that is.

But per Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, the Wizards are indeed making Morris available in trade talks ahead of the draft. Those conversations could carry over to free agency in the event Morris isn’t moved on draft night.

One thing new team president Michael Winger and the front office are making clear, per Fischer, is that they don’t want to take on any long-term deals in trades.

As for Paul, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN suggested earlier this week that Washington could indeed keep him into the season, presumably as a leader for what will likely be a younger roster by the time the season rolls around.

So far, Winger has pulled off two trades, sending star guard Bradley Beal to the Suns and forward Kristaps Porzingis to the Celtics as part of the Grizzlies deal. It remains to be seen if those trades will be rolled into one, with Paul possibly going to a third team.
